RESEARCH
Our clinical staff has been involved in landmark research paving the way for future improvements in the field of Visual Rehabilitation. Here are some notable examples.
Dr. John Coalter and Dr. R. Tracy Williams have just completed collaborating in the pilot phase of a study positioned by John Hopkins University School of Medicine, Wilmer Eye Institute to obtain N.E.I. funding for a mulit-year first-of-its-kind multi-center study evaluating both the instruments for and measure of quality of life outcomes resulting from as many as 20 different top models for Low Vision Rehabilitation. As a result of the success of the pilot study the N.E.I. has funded two 3-year LVROS (Outcomes) and LVCOMS (Mobility) studies. Dr. John D. Coalter is a P.I. in these studies.
Partnering with the John Hopkins Institute, Harvard Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and the U.S. Veterans Administration, Spectrios Institute's own Dr. Williams and Dr. Coalter provided key clinical data for the "Outcomes Study" funded by the N.E.I. which published its data in leading journals in the field between 2002 and 2004. The research established statistically significant measurable outcomes from Low Vision Services, comparing the data in Inpatient vs. Outpatient settings offering the highest standards of comprehensive care.
